It was really time, (Name) thought as she approached the front door of the large corporate building in front of her. There was a large sign out front that read, ‘Agency of Monster Caretakers’, which may seem a bit strange to the average person. However, this world is inhabited by monsters, and although some are rather benevolent and can live day to day in the human world, most need a caretaker to play with and feed them from time to time. Caretakers help to keep the more malicious monsters preoccupied and also teaches them not to go around killing people or causing trouble in general; which I’m sure you are not surprised, can be a problem.

This agency was the head of this whole plan, sending out different caretakers for week long assignments to take care of monsters of all different species and origins. It was dangerous, (Name) figured, because the agency was constantly looking for new caretakers to go out onto the field, but she never heard of any gruesome stories on the news. Certainly worrying stories would make headlines, right? … right? Oh well, there was no going back now, she was already opening up the door.

Her first assignment, she was so excited to delve into this new world, with so many different opportunities and experiences. She wondered what kind of monster she would be given as her first assignment, but there are so many types she could not even begin to guess.

The front room of the agency was elegant with a tall roof and lots of windows along the front, providing a lot of natural light. There were doors leading to halls on either side of a sign in desk that was situated firmly in the middle of the room, and on the right wall there was an elevator to take people to the second and third floors. (Name) needed to stay on the first floor so she signed in at the front desk and opened one of the doors that lead to the back of the building. The halls were narrow, and an off-white color, and there were rectangle lights up on the roof, lighting the way as she made her way to the room where she would receive all the information you needed. Soon, she stumbled upon the door, room A121, and gave it a swift knock.

“Come in!” a male voice called from behind the door. She opened it, and found herself in a light brown office with a large bamboo plant in the corner and a long desk with chairs on both sides. There was a singular window behind the desk, outlining the person sitting there. He stood up out of his chair as she walked in and held out his hand.

“You must be (Name) (Last Name), right?” he asked.

(Name) took his hand and shook it with a smile, “That’s me! I’m here for my first assignment!” she stated gleefully.

The man smiled and sat back down at his desk, waving his hand to one of the other chairs for (Name) to sit. “We are excited to welcome you to the agency,” he said and pulled out the drawer of a filing cabinet, bringing out a manila folder. “This is your file for your first week long assignment, allow me to go over it with you….”

The file was easy to read, but the man went over it with her anyway. (Name)’s first assignment would be a young Kitsune, a type of Japanese fox deity or something, named Kiku Honda. He was 5’5 with short, dark brown hair and lighter, chocolate brown eyes. He often took that form, looking like a human, with perky brown fox ears on his head, and two large, flowing tails behind him, the same dark brown of his hair with white tips. He had the capability to shapeshift into a full fox, apparently that being his original form, but it was said he did not do that very often around people. The other pages listed a few simple things. These things included how he liked to watch anime and read, his favorite foods were meat related and he liked to drink tea and had a lot stored in his house so he could make some for himself rather often. (Name) looked over all the papers with careful eyes, only having one question.

“This says page four of five here on the bottom, but there are only four pages here. Where’s the fifth one?” she asked curiously, looking up at the man.

He seemed to have lost all the blood in his face because he looked a little paler than earlier, “Must have, uh, must have been a printing error,” he shrugged. “But look, your assignment starts around noon, so you best start getting ready.”

That changed the subject really fast. “Noon? I did not know it would be so soon!!” (Name) smiled. “I can’t wait to start!”

“I’m sure you’re excited. You’ll find your care package starters in a room a little farther down the hall, the door will have a sign that says ‘supplies’. Talk to the worker in there and show them your paper, they’ll get you what you need to start off. I hope you have a good week,” the man smiled, all too ready to get the girl out of the room.

(Name) stood quickly and stuffed the papers back into the folder, “Oh thanks! I’ll get right on that, I only have two hours to prepare,” she said quickly.

After a handshake, the girl parted ways from the office, excited to get started with her first ever monster caretaking assignment.

IT IS HERE. :iconfliptableplz: I have come out of hiding.
I have been working on this story for quite a while now and I must say I have fallen in love with it. Despite it's flaws this story is like my child now.

So here is the intro! A little bit of a teaser where our daring reader-chan decides to take a job... monster caretaking?
This is actually based off of a game called Hitogotchi, a small choose your route game that was simply adorable and inspired this whole thing. It was going to be, at first, an intro, then a written our version of the good and bad endings of the game. But then it expanded and became so much more. The beginning is very much like the game, I believe, but once the 3rd part comes around the game aspect slowly begins to fleet away.

Hitogotchi, I believe, is a play on the word Tomogotchi, which means 'friend' in Japanese :3

So I hope you all enjoy this! I would like to post a chapter every week, and I think there are about 9 or 10 chapters all together.

Comments and favorites are really appreciated because they tell me at least someone likes my stories :iconrubcheeksplz:

Story belongs to me
Cover image belongs to me (surprise, surprise)
Japan belongs to Hetalia
And the game that inspired this, Hitogotchi, belongs to it's rightful owners as well :3
