"And on August 9th the second bomb was dropped," your world history teacher continued. The topic you were currently studying was the end of World War 2. That was a topic that meant way to much to you.
You weren't exactly a normal person, but a personified country*. World War 2 was the last was you had participated in, though you were neutral.
You were frantically writing down the notes when you heard a small sniffle from next to you. You glanced over and saw your friend Kiku writing down notes. You looked away and glanced back when you heard another sniffle. Slowly you watched as a tear fell down his cheek.
Your heart skipped a beat, he was the personification of Japan! You bit your lip as you realized he was recollecting the time. And he was- crying? Wait! Kiku never cried! Ever.
You felt your pencil drop out of your hand as you looked at him. He glanced up, his eyes didn't look like he was crying at all but there was a tear stain on his cheek.
You opened your mouth in a whisper, "Kiku... are you okay?"
He wiped at an eye, "Hai, ______-san. I'm fine."
You didn't think so. Slowly you reached over and grabbed the hand he wasn't using to write with.
♪I remember tears streaming down your face when I said "I'll never let you go."
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said "Don't leave me here alone."
But all that’s dead, and gone and past, tonight♪
World War 2. You remembered it like it was yesterday. You didn't want to join sides, but you almost joined the Axis, to help protect Japan.
You decided you were going to be neutral and not join either sides.
Time went by. Japan attacked America causing him to declare war on Japan. It was confusing really, being a country. You didn't make all the decisions and yet you suffered for them.
It was nearing the end of the war and America dropped the bombs on Japan.
"Alfred!" You cried as you flung the doors of the war room open, "Stop!"
He was going to attack Japan.
"I can't _______," he replied simply, "We need to make a move."
"That bomb will devastate Japan," you cried grabbing him by the collar of his aviators jacket. He just looked at you with uncharacteristically cold eyes.
"Its what my country wants, this will end the war," you knew Japan refused to surrender even though you had tried talking to him as well.
You weren't sure what to say to that. Slowly Alfred lifted a hand and an officer pressed a button.
"Wait!" You cried turning out the door and running.
"The first attack has been launched," you heard from the room behind you.
♪Just close your eyes, the sun is going down
You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now♪
You gave Kiku's hand a reassuring squeeze as you continued to let flashbacks over run your mind.

You ran for what seemed like forever before you reached Kiku's house. Being a country, you basically felt everything that happened to the country you represented.
If your country fell. So did you.
You flung the door open. Kiku was laying on the ground, papers strewn in front of him.
You let out a scream as you ran up to him.
"Its okay Kiku," you whispered so the teacher couldn't hear.
Your country has never been attacked like that before so you had no idea what to expect.
"I could have died that day," Kiku whispered.
You shook your head, "I wasn't going to let you."

Within the next few days Kiku was back on his feet but the Japanese War Council refused to surrender. You tried yelling at them too, it didn't work.
You hadn't talked to Alfred since but you could tell he had cut trade with you. You felt it. You still stayed with Japan and figured everyone else saw this as you allying yourself with him. You didn't care.
Few days later you heard a gasp from Kiku in the other room, then a crash. You ran and saw Kiku on his knees.
"What’s wrong," you fell to your knees beside him.
"Bomb," he gasped in a small breath, "Just-" he collapsed and you screamed and listened to his heart. You were so close to him that if he was conscious he would have thrown you off.
His breathing was in short gasps and you felt a tear drip down your cheek.
"Come on! Don't die on me!" You carried him to his bed and didn't leave his side until his breathing returned to normal.
